The answer is of course VERY IMPORTANT, most people when visiting a website will inevitably look at the about me page. Why? Because it is human nature. We are all very curious at heart and want to know more about the person to whom the website belongs, hence the about me page will get the viewers interested immediately.
If your page is for a business website then make sure you keep your page businesslike. This does not necessarily mean uninteresting, on the contrary, make it as interesting as possible let people know just how you got started in your business. Tell the viewers about your background, mention where you were born and a little about your life. People like to feel they know a little about the person concerned.
Inform people why you decided to start your own business, what inspired you to take that decision and your early experiences. Explain how you conducted your research to find the kind of business you were searching for, you can even mention any setbacks you may have come across along the way and how you dealt with them.
Put a good photo of yourself one that shows you looking smart, to show people exactly what you look like. You would be surprised just how many people will look further if they like the look of someone and think they look trustworthy. A video can also be added to this page, if you feel confident enough to make one. This only needs to be a short video no more than two minuets at maximum. Video's of any longer length may cause the viewer to get distracted and move on.
Remember this page is all about self-branding, this is probably one of the most important pages on your website so spend time making it worthwhile for the viewer to linger. This is good for your business, people like to be amused so maybe you could also add something suitable that will make the viewer smile. Make sure that it is nothing that will offend or upset them.
Your about me page is basically just that, it is all about you. Take time putting as much relevant details in about yourself, your life and your background as possible. Then if you have done your job well the viewer will move on further through your website, looking at your product and then if you have been successful will sign into that magic "opt in box "leaving their details.
